#Q1049 - Sending and Receiving the WorkingArtist Data File as an Email Attachment.

The data that you enter into WorkingArtist 3.0 is stored in the data file (artdat30.mdb). You can send a copy of the data file to another computer by attaching it to an email. Once the email is received, the data file can be copied into the WorkingArtist30 folder on the receiving computer. The receiver will then be able to view or edit the data.

This process will NOT transfer image files, as they are stored separately in a folder on your hard drive not in the WorkingArtist program. Image files will have to be sent separately.

If you are sending data to another person, such as an assistant, who will be adding or editing data in data file, please read the WorkingArtist Knowledge Base Transferring Data Between Two Non-networked Computers.

Showing file extensions in Windows 98/ ME/ Windows 2000/ XP.

When locating the data file on your machine, you may not see the file extension. For example, the WorkingArtist data file is "artdat30.mdb," but you may only see "artdat30." To change the Windows option so that you can view file extensions (recommended), go to: Displaying File Extensions on Windows 98/ ME/ Windows 2000/ XP.

Showing file extensions and hidden folders in Windows Vista.

On Windows Vista, two default file options are (1) to hide file extensions, and (2) to make certain files hidden. So, the WorkingArtist data file is "artdat30.mdb," but you may only see "artdat30." Also, if the WorkingArtist30 sub directory is located in the directory "ProgramData", you may not be able to see "ProgramData" as it is a hidden folder. Here is a link to a WorkingArtist Knowledge Base article on Displaying File Extensions and Showing Hidden Folders on Windows Vista.

Problems sending or receiving the WorkingArtist data file as an email attachment.

The WorkingArtist data file (artdat30.mdb) is an ".mdb" file. Some email applications block ".mdb" files. If this problem occurs, we recommend that the sender make a copy of the data file and change the file extension of the copy from “.mdb” to “.abc”. The sender would then attach and send the renamed file “artdat30.abc” to the receiver. The receiver would rename the file extension from "artdat30.abc" to "artdat30.mdb"

2. Close the WorkingArtist application.

3. Open your email application, attach the data file from the location you have identified in #1 and send the email.
