#Q1048 - Locating the WorkingArtist 3.0 data file (artdat30.mdb) on your Hard Drive.

The data that you enter into WorkingArtist 3.0 is stored in the data file (artdat30.mdb).

To determine where your data file is located on your hard drive:

1. Open the WorkingArtist 3.0 application by double clicking on the WorkingArtist 3.0 icon.
2. Make a note of the file "path" displayed on the blue Title Bar of the Main Switchboard. This is the location of your data file. For example: The file path "c:\ProgramFiles\WorkingArtist30\Artdat30.mdb" indicates that:
a. On the "c" drive of your computer is the directory "Program Files."
b. In the directory "Program Files" is the "WorkingArtist30" sub directory.
c. In the "WorkingArtist30" sub directory is the Artdat30.mdb file.
3. If you plan to copy or move the data file, please first close the WorkingArtist application.

To find the data file on your hard drive:

Note for non Vista users. When you find the data file you may see "Artdat30" but not "Artdat30.mdb" because there is an option on your machine that is hiding the file extensions. Here is a link to a WorkingArtist Knowledge Base article on Displaying File Extensions on Windows 98/ ME/ Windows 2000/ XP.

Note for users running WorkingArtist 3.0 on Windows Vista: two default file options on Vista are (1) to hide file extensions, and (2) to make certain files hidden. If the WorkingArtist30 sub directory is located in the directory "ProgramData", you may not be able to see "ProgramData" as it is a hidden folder. Here is a link to a WorkingArtist Knowledge Base article on changing these default options so you can see file extensions and hidden folders: Displaying File Extensions and Showing Hidden Folders on Windows Vista.

You can locate the file by drilling down from the hard drive to the sub folder, using the file path as a guide. As an example, if the file path is "c:\ProgramFiles\WorkingArtist30\Artdat30.mdb"
1. From your desktop, right click on the MyComputer icon.
2. From the drop-down menu, click on Explore.
a. On the left hand side of your screen, double-click on "c:", then scroll down to "Program Files".
b. Staying on the left hand side of the screen, double-click on "Program Files" and scroll down to "WorkingArtist30".
c. Double-click on "WorkingArtist30". On the right side of your screen you will now see all the files in the WorkingArtist30 directory.
d. Locate Artdat30.mdb. If you see "Artdat30" but not "Artdat30.mdb", then go to folder options to show file extensions.
