#Q1031 - Error Message: “Default Printer Must be Set”.

An error message stating that a “Default Printer must be set” may be encountered while trying to view or print WorkingArtist reports.

The error occurs in the following situations:

-- You are working on a computer which does not have a printer driver installed.

-- You are working on a computer which is networked to a second computer. The printer driver is installed on the second computer. If the computer with the printer cannot be connected to, either because it is switched off or there is a problem with connectivity, the user on the first computer will encounter this error.

WorkingArtist is based on Microsoft Access, which requires that a printer driver is installed or can be accessed on another computer through the network. These error messages are generated from Access and we have no control over them.

The actual message and subsequent action will vary according to which report you are trying to view or print. We have found three variants:

1. “You must set a default printer before you design, print or preview”
2. “2202. You must set a default printer before you design, print or preview”
3. “ERROR 2202. You must set a default printer before you design, print or preview”

Depending on where the message is encountered, you may be able to just click OK to continue using WorkingArtist (although you may not be able to view or print the report) or you may have to close out of WorkingArtist.

RESOLUTION:

If you are working on a computer linked directly to a printer:

1. Check to see that the printer is switched on.
2. Check to see that the computer is properly connected to the printer.
3. Check to see that the printer drivers are installed on your computer.

To do this, click on Start/ Settings/ Printers and verify that your printer is listed. To see if it is the default printer, right click on the printer icon.

If you are working on a computer linked to the printer via another computer:

1. Check to see that the printer is switched on.
2. Check to see if the computer connected to the printer is switched on.
3. Check to see that the computer is properly connected to the printer.
4. Check that your computer is properly connecting to the computer with the printer.
5. Check to see that the printer drivers are installed on the computer connected to the printer.

To do this, click on Start/ Settings/ Printers and verify that the printer is listed. To see if it is the default printer, right click on the printer icon.
