#Q1022 - Using WorkingArtist with Networked Computers. The concept is to install WorkingArtist on different networked computers and for all the computers to be able to store and use information on the main computer's database file.
1. Install WorkingArtist 3.0 on the main computer (#1). 2. Install WorkingArtist 3.0 on the second computer(#2). 3. Go into Windows Explorer on #2 and locate the WorkingArtist 3.0 data file, artdat30.mdb (it might show as artdat30 depending on the option you have selected to hide or display file) 4. Rename the data file. You might change the data file extension from artdat30.mdb to artdat30.old. Alternatively, you can change the name of the file to something like Nondat.mdb. 5. Once you have renamed the data file, close Windows Explorer. 6. Open WorkingArtist 3.0 on #2. 7. You should get a warning message that the required data file cannot be found. Click on OK and you will get a dialog box to locate the data file. 8. Use the browse dialog to locate the artdat30.mdb file on #1. Once you create this link, any WorkingArtist records created on Computer #2 will be saved in the database file on Computer #1. 9. The only problems that we have experienced with networking WorkingArtist are that some functions, such as running reports, may be slower on the second computer. We recommend running all reports on the main computer. 10. The image files are a different matter. We recommend that you put copies of the image files in exactly the same folder on each computer. This way, the data file, which stores the path name to the image files, will be correct on all computers. When you add image files to the folder on the one computer, you can simply copy the folder to the other computer. Back to the top | ||
