#Q1020 - Restore a Backup File From a CD.

Install WorkingArtist 3.0

If you are installing to a new machine or reinstalling on your current machine after a virus, first install WorkingArtist 3.0 on your computer. If you applied any updates after your original installation, be sure to re-apply the last update that you previously applied.

For the purposes of this article we shall assume that the WorkingArtist 3.0 data file is located at c:\program files\WorkingArtist30. To locate your WorkingArtist data file, here is a link to a WorkingArtist Knowledge Base article on Locating the WorkingArtist 3.0 data file (artdat30.mdb) on your Hard Drive.

Restore your backup data file from a CD:

1. Close the WorkingArtist 3.0 application.
2. Insert your CD with the artdat30.mdb backup into the CD Rom drive.
3. Right click on the My Computer icon on your desk top, then click on Explore to open Windows Explorer.
4. Locate your CD Rom drive in the left section and double-click on it.
5. In the right section, you should see your artdat30.mdb file. (You may have named the file differently).
6. Click ONCE on the artdat30.mdb file to highlight it.
7. Select Edit/Copy or click on the Copy button on your toolbar to put the file onto the Windows clipboard.
8. Locate your WorkingArtist30 directory. This is probably c:\program files\WorkingArtist30.
a. On the left hand side of your screen, double-click on "c:", then scroll down to "Program Files".
b. Staying on the left hand side of the screen, double-click on "Program Files" and scroll down to "WorkingArtist30".
c. Double-click "WorkingArtist30". On the right side of your screen you will now see all the files in the WorkingArtist30 directory.
9. In the right section, locate artdat30.mdb and right click on it, select the option Rename, and rename artdat30.mdb to artdat30.old. If you see "artdat30" but not "artdat30.mdb", then there is an option on your machine that is hiding the file extensions. Here is a link to a Knowledge Base article on how to display file extensions.

NOTE: If you have named your backup file something other than artdat30.mdb, then make sure, before you copy it into the WorkingArtist 30 folder, that there is not already an existing file with that name in the WorkingArtist 30 folder. If you do the Edit/Paste (#10 below) and you get a message asking if you want to overwrite an existing file of the same name, then you would probably want to Cancel, locate the existing file, and rename it before copying in your backup

10. Select Edit/Paste from the file menu, which will copy the artdat30.mdb (your backup) from the Windows clipboard into the WorkingArtist30 folder.
11. If the backup file has a name other than artdat30.mdb, then rename it to artdat30.mdb.
12. Right click on the artdat30.mdb file that you just copied in. It might be at the bottom of the list. Click on Properties. Uncheck the Read-Only attribute if it is checked. (Files are sometimes made Read Only when burnt onto CD). Close the properties dialog.
13. Close Windows Explorer, open the WorkingArtist 3.0 application and check your data.
